Paul's First Month

Week one: We were in the hospital for two days.  The first day the nurses poked your heels many times for sugar checks because you only weighed in the 9th percent tile.  They were all fine.  After you were born, your weight dropped down to 6 lbs 2 oz. You had gone 24 hours in the hospital without peeing, so they wanted to make sure you were getting enough milk.  You had to pee before we were discharged home, and we were discharged after midnight.  Many people came to see you in the hospital, all your grandparents, aunts and uncles, and friends.   Dad changed his first diaper in the hospital, and gave you a bottle that first night home. At your first wellness visit:  Four days old, you were 7lbs 1oz.  So proud of you for growing!

Daddy's First Diaper Change

You have your daddy’s chin, and your mommy’s eyes.  I thought you looked so much like your daddy at first, but after getting home and looking at my baby pictures, I am seeing more and more of me.  You have very little very blonde hair, but it is there.  Right now you have dark blue eyes, but that might change.  I think you might have got my long body and short legs.  Grandma Conrad thinks you have long fingers.   God has made you uniquely you!
Week two:  First outing was to mom’s bible study on Monday nights.  You screamed for twenty minutes on the car ride home because you were hungry.  It broke my heart to hear you cry like that.
Week three:  First real smile. We were so happy and took a picture right away!
Week four:  You slept for seven hours straight.  Your daddy has been sleeping well throughout the night too! You took a bottle for daddy, but screamed really hard afterwards, because you swallowed a lot of air.
This month you loved being carried outside in the Moby wrap.  It was the only way we could get you to sleep sometimes.  Your Grandma Rohrer came to visit and rocked you on the porch while wearing you in the Moby Wrap.  It was very hot outside, but I tried to take you on walks in the stroller in the morning.
I was surprised by how much you were awake! You have always been a very alert baby!  A small cat nap is good enough for you, and you are ready to go again!
Tim’s favorite way to put you to sleep and hold you is to hold your head in one hand and bottom in the other.  Face to face you look at him, and he gently jiggles you to sleep.  It is quickly becoming your favorite way to go to sleep, and you get heavy for me to hold like that.
Favorite Nickname:  Scooter, Baby Paul
Favorite thing to do:  Chew on your hands, you don’t like pacifiers.
